Deadline Schedule for Year

Deadline Schedule

The following schedule is for the production of a 10-15 minute newsmagazine show to be viewed five times in a 9 weeks. The goal for each show deadline is to allow the staff to have time at the beginning of the year, and throughout the year, to review and learn skills to add to shows. No more than three shows will be produced in a four week time period.

Each collection of weeks should follow the same standard deadline system.

    1. Story Pitch – The first deadline to meet is the story pitch. Identify the day where teams will have to pitch their story to the rest of the class. They will be responsible for filling out the sheet completely and presenting the ideas. See handouts tab for story pitch sheet.
    2. Revised Pitch and Show Scheduling – After the team has heard the feedback from the group, the team of students then should revise their pitch and consult a show producer to figure out when the segment will air. Put it up on the board (second deadline) so that everyone knows what day it will air, and also then when the segment must be produced and ready to be placed in the show timeline.
    3. B-roll and Interview Deadline – Establish a day at least two days before the show (third deadline), where the b-roll and interviews have been recorded and upload for producers to critique.
    4. Script Deadline – the script should be written and voiceovers recorded following the b-roll and interview deadline. Again this should be on the computer at least one day before the show is aired (fourth deadline).
    5. Rough Cut Deadline – allow the senior producers to have a look at the segment (fifth deadline)before it has been completed. It needs to have another set of eyes look for errors in lower thirds, edits, and anything else which could be adjusted.
    6. Final Deadline – the deadline (sixth/final deadline)for the final produced segment should be adjusted depending on what the staff feels comfortable with, but a good idea is to have the show director stay after school the day before the show is to be aired and put the entire show together and upload it to your video hosting site on the afternoon prior to the show airing date. If the show needs to be uploaded at 5 PM, then the requirement is that the segments should be completed by no later than 3 PM that afternoon.

IF THE SEGMENT DOES NOT MEET FINAL DEADLINE – THE TEAM RECEIVES A ZERO for the assignment. THIS RULE PUSHES STUDENTS TO GET IT DONE.
